Why I started Holtz Athletic

I've received probably about 100 questions regarding why I started Holtz Athletics. These questions usually come after I introduce my products. The truth is, I started my company for many reasons. I should point out that Holtz Athletics is a wholly owned subsidiary of JH Graphics and Sports.

My journey for JH Graphics and Sports is just as intricate as my journey for Holtz Athletics. I started JH Graphics and Sports because I wanted to put numbers, logo's, and names on the back of hockey jerseys. My passion for this came about six years ago when I was running my University club hockey team. We needed new jerseys and the only thing we could muster up was some white jerseys and a sharpie. Soon after my first game in club hockey, I was approached by the commissioner who said that my jerseys needed to be fixed. We looked like a disgrace to the league. So I looked into my budget and found that the jerseys required by the league would cost me at least $1,500 for just one set. Not home away and practice. Just one set. So I bought the dark one's and immediately ate up half of my $3,000 budget.

Fast forward 4 years and I found myself in another situation: needing to get jerseys for my adult team but not having enough cash to pocket 30 jerseys. I had a sample done on two jerseys for just me. This cost $96. I realized that there had to be a better way. I was right. That's how JH Graphics and Sports came along.

My next problem was that to buy jerseys I would have to go through my pro shops to get jerseys. I did this for a couple of teams, but I was paying their profit margin to get jerseys. I couldn't get any kind of discount, much less pay the actual cost so I could sell the jerseys. So I reached out to many different companies who make jerseys. None of them would allow me to purchase their jerseys. Once again, I was in a hole that I needed to get out of. It was either that, or just accept the same old situation.

So I went out....I bought screen printing equipment, I bought vinyl equipment. I bought printers, plotters, paper and ink. I spent thousands of dollars, but I still didn't have any way of getting jerseys. I researched foreign factories to see who would produce jerseys for me. Turns out, my desire of never quitting came in handy.

In doing this, Holtz Athletics was born. Now that I have had a couple of orders to reflect upon, I think about the journey here. Both of these company's would never have been around if it wasn't for my intrigue.

So really, why do I keep going? Well that answer is pretty easy: I love hockey. Now I realize that if I ever want this company to grow, I will have to expand beyond hockey. For now though, I'm enjoying this market. It's not the most profitable, but profit wasn't my goal. My goal was to produce the best looking hockey jerseys for a decent price. I think I have achieved that goal.

So if you ever need great jerseys, caps, shirts, hats, hoodies, shorts, pants...etc..... www.jhgraphicsandsports.com
