The rise of the woman

I was not sure where to put this blog. I could have focused my attention on the Ray Rice domestic violence issues, or I could have focused easily on NFL players and their spending. Both of those subjects have received enough attention. I felt the best thing to write about was women's rights. Although this is a very bland topic, the idea has taken up quite a shape in recent years. The closer we get to an equal society, the closer we will get towards what women and men think is normal.

To see where this is headed, we must look at our past. Specifically, I like to highlight my past and take you with me. I'm roughly 31 years of age and I am currently married. Thirty years ago, had the computer and modern technology been around, I would probably be doing exactly what I am doing now: Writing. I might have talked endlessly about idea's that could mean absolutely nothing to 99% of my readers. It's not so much whatever I write on paper on on this computer that would have made me back then. It's what I would be like after I got up and addressed everyone. This is where Women's rights started. Right here on this computer. When the man got up, the woman sat down and something changed. Minds started opening, we were equals. I can type (in theory) just as fast as a woman, and I can do anything else in relatively similar fashion. Pregnancy or muscle issues wouldn't effect either of us. But the world off of this computer is something different. It's real, it's tangible, and it certainly doesn't translate to what women have been asking for since they sat down at a computer.

Here is why:

I grew up in a very small town under the cloud of religion. It is here that I believe Women's rights are truly given up to their fullest extent. People complain about how bad women have it elsewhere, but go to a church and follow their preachings for a while. You will see that the bible isn't too keen on allowing women to do much. In fact, in my small town and my small church many of the men had college educations. Their frail and tiny wives had half of one. The women in that church often studied until a proposal was made by the man. At that time, the woman would immediately drop out of school while the man finished. Every woman I knew at my young age would prepare for marriage. This includes serving the man, taking care of the house and being a "good wife". This is almost a 180 degree turn from what was being taught in college. These women married their men and had children and never left their husbands side. I've even heard of women refusing to divorce in the case of abuse or neglect. This is all okay'd within the church, and makes women's rights that much more confusing.

Right here, today, things are different. Women own or run roughly 66% of all editorial magazines, columns or news papers. Women own less than 5% of the major publications though. So the question must be asked: What do women want?

Well the answer is pretty simple: equality. Somehow it is viewed in our male culture that being penetrated (sexual intercourse) makes a woman weak. This is often used as a negative reference in sports competitions and the like to illustrate a man or boy who is not performing. They are called a "pussy" because a "pussy" get's penetrated. That makes them weak. So let's say for a minute that we eliminate the genitalia argument. Let's say that we look at each other from a biological standpoint. Take a look for instance at a construction site. Then take a look at an office. More often than not, you won't find women on construction sites. This might point to a lack of women in the field, but it's often due to the strain on the human body. Construction isn't easy and whether you choose to acknowledge this or not, women don't often have the muscle capacity that men do. That might sound offensive and you might think of me as a bigot. If so, you can stop reading at any time. Construction type work often requires less brain and more braun. Women seem to have a knack for having the brains of the two sexes. Take a quick look at relationships between a man and a woman. How often do you hear the saying "behind every woman is a man shaking his head"? You don't. It's the other way around. Men are keen to making stupid decisions. This leads me back to my previous statement. Take a look around the office. At my work, their is an abundance of women. In fact all of my managers are women. Most have been in their positions for six or more years. Now contrast that to the construction site. You will notice a big difference.

The next item to note is pay. Why do women get less pay than men? Do they actually get less pay than men? If you are looking one on one, you won't find it. If you sample women from all industries and compare them with their male counterparts you will quickly see a trend of women being paid less. Why is this? Well it goes back to the penetration argument. Remember? The person who is penetrated is weaker. Take that statement to my office. You'll notice that if you are the one doing the penetrating that you are in the minority and usually not in a management position. However that is not the real issue here. The issue is that men see two points A and B. A is the start of your career and B is the end. A man starts his career, develops and aside from any medical issue ore vacation develops into a phenomenal employee. Contrast that to a woman. Men see women as having 3 points A, B, and C. A is the start of the career, B is childbirth, and C is the end. B is almost always associated with a gap. B also means less time for the woman to develop as an employee. B, finally, means that men will have the opportunity to grow more as employee's. Well for this I ask you to take a look into the news. Remember back in the day when families consisted of a husband, wife and nine children? That was the 60's. That's where this lack of rights started. Take a look around today. Those families pushing 9 kids have reality shows. 4 children seems to be pushing it. I have a cousin who was a surrogate for 5 children plus delivered 4 of her own. She started work as a phlebotomist, went to school and became a nurse all while having these 9 children. Women can do more now, and the advent of the internet allows the recovery time, both from childbirth and missing work to be minimal. In fact, most jobs that work in an office (remember when you looked around the office?) have the option to work remotely. So a newly minted mother could put work in from home. Yeah, we've grown in technology.

So where does this lead us? Well I am an American. Lot's of people don't like me because of what I stand for. But for my fellow American's we are trend setters. If we like this or not, we are. Because of this we must stand in front and allow ourselves to give women the chance to do exactly what we do: work hard and earn the most money possible. After all, it's much more fun to have a pocket book of money than a folder of regrets.
